A lesson in humility

Yesterday I picked my daughter up from school, as usual. We got home, had after school snacks, and everyone was just relaxing. Then Miss Priss stood up and said, "Oh Mama, I gotta show you something." Typically that means she has an important note from the teacher about a field trip or school event.

Not this time.

Miss Priss brought out a tube of toothpaste. She said the teacher gave it to her because she has stinky breath.

Let me preface this. Miss Priss is now in the first grade. She managed to muddle through kindergarten with a few upsetting events, but she survived. And in the end, I found myself kinda proud of her. She did it! She overcame her supremely timid personality to make it all of the way to the end of the the kindergarten year.

So back to the toothpaste. Of course, like most any parent, my first reaction was, "That's not true. It was probably just something the whole school was getting because of a dental health awareness event. Everyone in your class got that, right?"

"No. Just me and a few other kids. Mama, I don't want to have stinky breath. I already brush my teeth and floss and use mouthwash. I really don't want stinky breath."

Miss Priss is really not prone to lying. I could tell she was kind of bothered, so I told her the teacher had to be just kidding.

"Mama she was NOT joking. I heard her say it. And everybody didn't get it so she must have been serious."

So now I'm suspicious. It's too late in the day to call the school, and my mind starts going there. Why did she get toothpaste? We have well water, so maybe this was just something from the county school board office for kids with well water that need extra fluoride for good dental health. I would understand that. But then I let myself keep thinking on it.

And let's face it. When we think on something we don't have all the information on, we tend to get it ALL wrong. ALL WRONG!!!

When I start devoting time to incomplete ideas, half stories, suspicions, etc, I almost always get it wrong. I dwell on it. And then my thoughts go to my childhood.

"Your breath stinks."

"Your teeth look yellow."

"Cheetos teeth."

Trust me, I could list a million other things I heard as a kid from various places. But that's not important. The point here is that I was taking issues from my past and placing them on my child. My breath has probably never been the freshest. I have chronic allergy and sinus issues. I have acid reflux problems. Again, I could list several other reasons for why I've had bad breath- often having nothing to do oral health. It happens. It's just something you try to handle as appropriately as possible, but you can only use so much breath spray and gum. Am I right??

Then it became about my parenting abilities. "I make sure my kids brush their teeth. My children have great- excellent even- oral health!! Miss Priss was just at the dentist two weeks ago!!" I began to take it personally. That teacher must not think I do a good job.

Never a good place to be for a mother.

So I started getting a little more bothered by the statement my daughter heard. I let it get the best of me. I went to Facebook and vented, and there were more than enough people willing to agree and encourage me to get ugly with the teacher. As soon as I posted my rant, I knew I should have been silent. For every comment that was encouraging a negative response, I replied with a diffuser. I got messages that truly helped me to see this as it was, and not take it to mean too much. Even still, I was getting mad and thinking I knew the whole story before I ever spoke to the teacher.

When I woke this morning, I knew exactly what needed to be done. I started my day with prayer, which is usually my habit, and I asked the Holy Spirit to guide my every word. Put a damper on my mouth if I start to say something that misrepresents You. Thankfully, He did just that.

I walked Miss Priss to class this morning, and asked her teacher into the hall to talk for a moment. I simply told her that I got the toothpaste that was sent home, but I just wanted to know where it came from. The teacher sort of shrugged and said some fifth graders brought it to her classroom for everyone in the class, and it was most likely from the school nurse. I told her I assumed as much, but that Miss Priss had mentioned something about stinky breath? Her teacher admitted that she did say this when one particularly feisty boy asked, and she meant it as a joke. She didn't realize other kids overheard, and said that she was so sorry that Miss Priss took it personally.

So I thought the worst for a simple first grade style misunderstanding. The teacher did say it. Miss Priss took her seriously. And I found out as I picked her up today that the rest of the class actually received toothpaste Friday. Miss Priss was sent home early Friday because she'd had an accident with another student on the playground that resulted in a bloody nose and vomiting. So she didn't get the toothpaste until Monday.

Everything was fine. All had been fixed. So why am I still feeling so bad?

Because I let it get to me. I let the enemy of all things good use my past to come at me. I began to think that the people at school must think I'm not doing a good job as a mom. They must think my kids are dirty. They must think we're too poor to buy our own toothpaste. They must think I'm stupid. Then I went to Facebook for further validation of my feelings. Bad idea.

Where should I have gone? That one's quite obvious in hindsight. I should have gone to God.

Facebook is not God.

If Facebook were God, it would have told me this:

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you."

Instead, I chose to think on what I only knew in part. What wasn't at all honorable. What was so unjust I almost let my confederate redneck flag slip out. It wasn't pure, lovely, commendable, excellent or praiseworthy. But I let myself go there.

God, forgive me.

I didn't get ugly with the teacher. I didn't use her name on Facebook, so few people have any idea who she is. I didn't report her to the principal or the school board. But in my mind, I let a one-sided story go all too far.

I know I'm not alone. I've done it before. I pray it doesn't happen again, but I am, after all, human.

God,
Please change my thoughts. Remind me of how You see me, of how You see my children. Help me to focus on what You know to be true, not what I think, not what I hear, not what the enemy may be saying. Remind me of the armor You provide in Your Word. Remind me of the right way to think. The right way to act. Help me to see Your truth and not get caught up in simple mistakes. Guard my heart. Guard my mind. Let me focus on only that which is true, pure, excellent, praiseworthy. Commendable.

Today I decided to delete my original post and instead post about how I am thankful for teacher who are willing to deal with moms like me- who get it wrong all the time.

If you are reading this, and you just so happen to be an educator or on staff at a school or school board- thank you. Thank you for being merciful towards me and my kind. We only want to see our kids grow in every way while in your care. We are trusting you to educate, encourage, protect and provide for our kids when we drop them off in the morning. We are asking the world of you, but we really want to believe the best about you. Prove us right. We will be quick to let you know when you mess up, but hopefully, we will be just as quick to apologize when we are wrong, as we would expect from you. And for those parents who are a little lost, who focus more on their own desires and often neglect their children, thank you for loving on those kids who may have stinky breath, stinky butts, dirty hair, lice, cockroaches, fleas, etc. Thank you for being what they never see at home. You are impacting that child in such a way that you may be the very reason why they do not repeat their parents' mistakes.

And now I'm off to watch my husband dispose of the slug that just crawled out from under my son's car seat that was airing outside while I cleaned his seat cover of vomit from earlier today. Yep, it's nasty. But that's life. At least it's getting cleaned of the vomit. Must mean I'm not so dirty or nasty. And I'm choosing to focus on what's good.

The problem with early decorations...

We got our tree up and decorated on Friday, and the rest of the decorations went up on Saturday...

And I love to getting all the pretties up all over the house...

But there's a little problem...

I found Miss Priss in front of the fireplace this morning saying, "Come on Santa, where are you? It's just me, mommy and baby bruddy (Miss Priss speak for "brother") here, you can come on now.... Santa.... SAAAAANTAAAA!!"

How do I explain to my 3 year old that we still have nearly a month to go???

Changes, changes, changes

Remember my last blog where I said I was gonna start blogging regularly again?

(no comment)

Yeah- uh, sorry bout that!

There's been a lot of stuff going on, of course still adjusting to the new kid in town. His sleep schedule is finally starting to make sense, and last night he slept for 9 hours straight!! I didn't, since I'm so used to waking a couple of times a night to feed him, but it was nice to know that he can actually make it that long without eating!! We go Monday for his two month checkup and shots. I'm praying that the time change this weekend and shots don't mess with his schedule too much!

And as much as I don't really want to write this part, I have to say that I turned in my homeschooling hat last week. At least for a season. Lady M started public school on Monday because with a new baby, a preschooler and a 9 year old, lessons were getting a little long and she was becoming quite defiant. Her grades were dropping, so after praying a LOT, I realized it was time to put her back into what she calls "real school."

I went to the school to fill out the paperwork a couple of weeks ago, then scheduled a time for Lady M and I to go and meet with the teacher. Lady M is in 4th grade this year, but she was placed in a 4th/5th grade combination class. The teacher seemed great, stern enough to keep the kids in line, but also witty, so as not to come across as the "mean" teacher in school.

Monday was hard!! I had already planned that Miss Priss would spend the night with my mom since Lady M wanted me to walk her to class. Miss Priss does not like to get up, get ready, and go anywhere very early. So it was me, Lady M and Little Man, driving up to the school, walking in, registering for a visitor's pass, and taking that LOOOOOOOONG walk to Lady M's class. Ok, so it wasn't that long, but since I was about to leave my 9 year old in the hands of strangers again, it seemed like a death march to me. Lady M got to her class and stopped outside the room. She pointed and said, "There's my class." A few seconds later we walked in. She was greeted by her assistant teacher, Mr. Garner, with an outstretched hand. I looked at Lady M. Her head was down, arms tightly crossed, then finally her hand went out to shake Mr. Garner's. My mind was already thinking it was going to be a horrible day for her when I saw her stance. She marched to her seat without saying anything to me. So... I took the hint and left. I had parked the van on the street, and when I got in, it took me at least 15 minutes to leave. My mind was running a mile a minute, wondering if it would be okay for me to just stay there all day in case Lady M needed me. She could just grab up her things, bolt for the door, and come running outside to the van, and we'd make a fast getaway.... or if any creepy looking weirdos approached the front doors of the school, I would be the first to dial 911 and get to my kid before something bad happened.... but then I realized that I have a new baby in the backseat that was NOT going to stay in the van all day with me. I started to drive away.

About halfway home (it's only 3-4 minutes to the school from our house), I stopped at a stop sign and thought, 'I could just turn around and go get her!'. But I remembered that I had prayed about this and there was no reason why I couldn't trust God to take care of her, even if she only went to "real school" for a day. I made it to my driveway, pulled in, and then the waterworks started. At least I made it home before I lost it!!

I sat in my driveway for 15 more minutes, thinking about Lady M, what was she doing right now? Was she making friends? Was I going to be called to the school to pick up my child because she was such an emotional wreck? Would she still love me since I sent her to that horrible place? Was there a kid with a gun in her class?  The questions kept coming....

I finally realized that I could not sit and dwell on these things all day long. So I went to Kohl's for retail therapy (not really, I had to exchange a couple of dresses for Miss Priss). By the time I got home, I looked at the clock. 11:30. It was almost time for Lady M to go to lunch. She'd made it half the day. I'd not been called to come pick her up. There had not been anything on the radio about a crazed kid at large after running away from her school, or police being called to the school to handle a "situation". She must be doing okay...

When it was time for me to go pick her up, I sat in the line of cars forEVER!! I think every muscle in my body was tense because I was so sore on Tuesday. I finally made it up to the front of the school, and looked for my daughter to be slumped over and red faced from crying.... but she was standing there, waving, HUGE smile on her face!!

She got in the van, and I asked how her day went.

"GREAT!! I already have 2 new best friends and 2 boys in my class have a crush on me. The girl that sits beside me is one of my kindergarten teachers' granddaughters! Remember her? We got free ice cream today! And lunch was delicious, I wanna buy my lunch every day! We learned about...."

She survived!! It was okay!! I left my kid in the place that I had sworn for years I wouldn't send her back to, and she survived!! Not only that, she loved it! As we were driving away, I started to relax. I could do this. It was okay that she was going to school, "real school". I don't have to hate myself for not being able to be the best homeschool teacher right now. We can do this, even if it's just for 9 weeks. Or one month. Or 2 weeks. Or even the rest of the school year (gulp!). However long she needs to be there, I know now that she will be okay. God will be with her, whether she's here with me or at school with kids and teachers and cafeteria workers and custodians...and potentially even creepy looking weirdos. God will be there too. And I have to trust that HE is in charge, in control, and that whatever happens, if it's His Will, it will be what's best for her.

I think I learned more than Lady M this week ....

Miss Priss had a baby today....

So Miss Priss is finally getting used to the idea of using the "potty" on a regular basis. For the most part, if she is wearing her "big girl" panties, she makes sure she keeps them clean, if you know what I mean.

Today Lady M & I went on a field trip that was for kids 8 yrs old and up, so Miss Priss stayed with Mamaw & Papaw. We got back from the field trip around lunch time and decided to hang out in the yard to enjoy the GORGEOUS weather.

While we were on the front porch, Miss Priss informed me she needed to go use the potty. I gladly took her to the bathroom, helped her onto her little seat on the toilet, and she did her business...

Only about halfway through, she started making a grunting/straining sound...

I asked her what was going on.

"Mommy, I'm having a baby... "

And when she finished what she needed to finish, she said, "Hold on, don't flush yet, we have to get the baby out." She reached over and pretended to pick something out of the toilet.

And I had to hold her baby while she washed her hands...

Gotta love that imagination!

Potty Training a Princess

We've been working on getting Miss Priss fully potty trained since last summer. With Lady M, it was a breeze, she wanted to be a big girl, and at 17 months, she was going to the potty, wearing her big girl panties, the whole nine yards.

Miss Priss is different.

The only way she will use the potty is if she's bottomless. For whatever reason, she believes if something is touching her bottom, it's there to catch whatever comes out of her. We've tried letting her wear regular panties so she can "feel" when she's wet, but it's still the same thing, she pees in them and just keeps going.

So this week, even though I'm still fighting the yuck belly that comes with the first trimester, we decided to try again with the panties. Monday wasn't too eventful, a few leaks in the underwear, but for the most part she did great. Tuesday came around, and I found Miss Priss bottomless again.

I sat down here at the desk as Miss Priss was playing behind me on the sofa, trying to get out an email to our homeschool group that we wouldn't be able to make it to the field trip scheduled on Tuesday afternoon. As I was logging on and getting ready to type, I smelled something foul.

I asked Miss Priss, "Do you need to go to the potty?"

Miss Priss: "No."

So I typed my email, clicked send, and realized the smell seemed more intense. "Miss Priss, did you poopy?" (My eyes were already scanning the room, and my stomach was churning at the thought of cleaning up the mess).

Miss Priss; "No."

Me: "Miss Priss, I smell poopy Where did you go? Did you use the potty?"

Miss Priss: "No."

Me (at this point, much more frustrated): "Miss Priss, where is the poopy????"

Bottomless Miss Priss leans over on the couch, butt up in the air, and points to her crack.

"It's in the hole."

Apparently, she'd only passed a little gas, instead of actually doing the deed, and she's figured out exactly where it comes from. At least she's learning a little about her own anatomy in the process of putting the mess where it goes.

What Toddlers Do While Mommies Blog

Ever wondered what an entire roll of toilet paper looked like on the floor?

This is a bedroom wall

And there's more in the hall.... I just didn't want to bore you.

AND by the way, Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser does NOT work on all marks....

It's Wednesday! The day we celebrate kids funny sayings. What did your kids, cousins, nephews, nieces say this past week that made you laugh out loud? Link up on the McLinky and post about it on your blog! Go to Mindi's blog for the link up!
*****************************************************

Last week was so busy for me, but was nice. Boss was off work from Wednesday thru Sunday (which is like a VACATION!!), which meant we tackled our crazy bonus room mess. It was so much fun (believe it or not). We got tired and silly and nearly crushed our toes with furniture when we started laughing (why do you get weak when you laugh?) .

Onto the funny things my kids are saying now.

Yesterday, Lady M finished reading one of her assigned "homeschool" books called "Catwings". This unit, we're studying the fantasy genre, and this was the first book for her to read. I asked her to tell me what the book was about.

"Well, there were these cats born with wings, which is weird. They lived in a dumpster, and ate trash, then this owl came along and tried to attack them, so they ran away and hid. Then this girl found them and she told her brother, 'Hey, I found these cats and they have wings',  and her brother said, 'No you didn't, cat don't have wings'--- and he's right, cause cats don't have wings. But then the sister showed him, and they took the cats with wings home with them and the owl didn't mess with them anymore."

I love that she had to add in the fact that "he's right, cause cats don't have wings". I had to re-explain what fantasy meant.

After our Christmas program at church, Lady M, Miss Priss and I were on our way home when Lady M launched into this.

Lady M :"Mom, Katie and Laura at church said they've had sex before."

(GASP!!!!) These are two sweet little 8 or 9 year old girls at church. After I coughed up my tongue, I replied.

Me : "Lady M, Katie and Laura probably don't know what sex is. I doubt they know anything about it."

Lady M: "Too bad I do."

Me:  (GASP COUGH GASP) "WHAT?!"

Lady M: "Yeah, remember when I asked you about that before? Remember, I told you about it?"

And in washed the relief, since my child thinks that sex is when a man and a woman are kissing in the bed and sometimes rolling around on top of each other. No nudity, no private parts, no nothing that an eight year old is WAY too young to know about.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miss Priss was so very much into Christmas. That's gotta be one of the best things about being a two year old, you're finally starting to understand what's going on, and boy is it exciting!!
We have this table in our living room....
As you can see, Miss Priss likes to hang things on the curly things underneath. The week of Christmas, this became a place for most of the decorations/ornaments from our tree. Miss Priss decided that she needed to camp out underneath the table. When I asked her what she was up to, she said, "This my home, Mommy. This my Trismas Tree, don't you tink it's bee-ful?? (beeful = beautiful)".
Of course, I had to say yes.
She then moved her arm/hand Vanna White style over the span of the living room, "Is this your home Mommy? Oh my, it's beeee-ful, you think it's bee-ful Mommy?"
Again, I had to say yes. Ever since then, Miss Priss thinks all things are bee-ful. Too cute!!
Kid Witty Wednesdays
So I'm jumping on Mindi's blog carnival again this week....
It's Wednesday! The day we celebrate kids funny sayings. What did your kids, cousins, nephews, nieces say this past week that made you laugh out loud? Link up on my McLinky and post about it on your blog! Don't forget to link back to Mindi's blog. :)
*****************************************************
Woo-hoo! It's almost Christmas!! I'm done with my shopping (as of yesterday, yes I'm a procrastinator!!)
So Miss Priss has a new thing she does.... every time she wants to get into something she knows she's not supposed to, she tells me "Mommy, you go sit at the 'puter" . I guess that means I spend too much time in this chair not paying attention to her!!
Yesterday, I found her in front of her princess vanity in her bedroom, smearing some B&BW lotion all over herself. She said, "I'm takin' a bath".
She's also taken to pretending to be everyone else in the house instead of herself. For example, she'll come up to me and say, "Bye Mommy, I'm going to work. I'm Dad. Bye Mommy, I yuv you."
(I don't think she realizes that Dad doesn't call me Mommy)
Then there's the times she pretends to be Santa. She puts on her Santa hat (that just so happens to have Baby's 1st Christmas on the front of it from her 1st Christmas), and says "Ho ho ho, I'm Sint Taus (aka Santa Claus). Mommy, look, I'm Sint Taus. Whattayou want for Trismas?"
I love toddler talk!
Witty Kid Wednesday
Wanna join in? Go to Mindi's blog!!
Mindi is starting a new blog carnival today called Witty Kid Wednesday, and my kids are always saying the silliest things, so I'm definitely on board with this one!!
For instance...
Yesterday we went to the Nutcracker ballet at a local university. This is our second year going to this particular show, but it's always great. As we were leaving, I was talking to Lady M about how she needs to really get serious with her lessons, since she's not been doing them like she should. I told her that she needs to be "diligent" and serious about her work because she will have to finish 3rd grade if she ever wants to be a dentist like she says. A few months ago, we had this conversation while she was working on her lessons...
Lady M: "Mom this can't be right. You messed up with this lesson plan."
Me: "What? I didn't write the text books, Lady M. I can't help it if there's a typo. Let me see what you're talking about."
Apparently Lady M was just misunderstanding what was written. I tried to explain to her what the book was talking about. She didn't get it.
Lady M (now frustrated): "Mom, why do I have to be homeschooled?"
Me: "We've gone over that before and the reasons haven't changed."
Lady M: "Well, why do you have to be my teacher? Since I'm the student, and you're the teacher, that means I can fire you right? 'Cause I think you should be fired."
Which brings me back to yesterday.... as we were leaving the Nutcracker and I was talking about getting serious with her work, etc., Lady M says this:
"Mom, remember when I fired you a while back? Well, can I hire you back now? Because this work is getting HARD!"
LOL! I had to keep a straight face.... but I'm officially hired as her teacher once again :)
Day 9- Kid friendly ornament
Today, we made a candle, it didn't quite turn out like I'd hoped. Since I'm still trying to catch up for not posting earlier this week, I've been perusing to see what kind of fun something I can post. And I found a kid friendly homemade ornament here at FaveCrafts.com . If you like to hand those homemade things that you once thought were totally tacky on your tree, you gotta check it out.  After all, per The Nester at The Nesting Place , trees need themes, and what better theme than "homemade tacky ornaments"?
It may be a stretch, but I like them :)
Day 5- Parade!!
Since we're counting down to Christmas, I have to recommend that you either attend or participate in a Christmas parade. We walked in the Asheboro Christmas Parade last night with a homeschool group, and Lady M loved it! She's never been in a parade, so it was a BIG DEAL for her! It's so much fun, and around here, parades are typically only held at Christmas (I think Greensboro does a Fourth of July thing, and there's a Veteran's Day Parade around here somewhere... but you get my point). It's fun to see all the floats and dancers, bands and pageant winners. Then the big she-bang, SANTA at the end!
Here is a pic of Lady M holding the homeschool group banner- she's the one right in the middle, with the red earwarmer things under her off white hooded jacket.
Tomorrow I'm posting another super yummy recipe for those Christmas parties, make sure you come check it out!
Day 4- Recycled Ornament
I'm getting ready to go shopping for a wedding outfit, then off to do something I'll post about tomorrow :)
As for today... I made a snowflake ornament out of toilet paper tubes!! The idea wasn't mine, I'm giving credit where it's due, and that's to Family Fun magazine. They have so many great ideas in the current issue, I'll probably be posting more than just this one!!
On to the craft...
First, you'll need at least 2 toilet paper tubes, or maybe just one paper towel tube. We painted ours, simply because I like color.
Flatten the tube(s). Take a ruler and measure the tube into 3/4 inch sections.
You'll need 10 of the 3/4 inch segments to do your snowflake the same size as mine. After you've cut the pieces, measure 3/4 inch from each end of the tube and, using a hole punch, make a hole on either end, all the way through. When you've punched all 10 pieces, lay the flattend pieces out in a snowflake pattern, sort of lining up the holes. Starting with the inside of the snowflake,take one pipecleaner (I used silver), and thread it through the punched holes. Twist together and trim the excess. Next, twist 2 pipecleaners together, and run through the outer holes. Twist together and trim the excess.
Now, even out the pieces of cardboard to make them look equal enough, and string up your cute snowflake ornament using ribbon or string!! Hang it on your tree, or somewhere that needs just a little "handmade" touch!
Day 1- Count Down Calendar
I'm so excited to finally get all of this together!! It only took me like a MONTH to get the banner and background kinks worked out, but here we are, in the 25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS!!! So today officially begins my countdown to Christmas. I have a lot of things in mind for the days to come, so hold on tight and check back daily!!
Being December 1, I thought it would be fitting to do a very easy and kid friendly craft. Kids love to count down the days until Christmas, so what better way that to make a calendar to do it? This is super simple, so let your children help, let their creative juices FLOW!!
I started with these supplies:
~ 2 sheets of foam (12" x 18") in contrasting colors
~ various crafty stickers (most were felt)
~ hole punch
~ ribbon
~ foam glue (it works better than elmer's in my experience)
~ markers
~ something to mark the day (look for something less than 2" wide- I used a little felt banner)
~ scissors
~ ruler
First, decide which piece of foam you'd like to use for the background. Take the other piece of foam and mark off a 2" grid, 5 rows and 5 columns (this will be your cutting guide for the day pockets). Cut out the 25 squares, don't worry about how perfectly square they are. It may even be fun to use scrapbooking scissors to give the edges a cutesy look.
Here's a pile of my lil squares.
Now you want to take all the little squares and kind of map out how you want to place them. Be creative! I made mine in straight lines just like a calendar, but feel free to place the squares however you want. The important thing is to make sure you have 25. Now, number each square, 1 through 25.
Starting with the first square, place a string of glue on the backside bottom and two edges.
Glue the square in the place you planned, and gently but firmly press the sides and bottom. Be careful not to use too much glue, because the top HAS to be open to place our day marker in. Glue all of the squares in place. Punch two holes at each end of the top of the calendar, making sure not to get too close to the edge because foam tears easily. Cut a piece of ribbon about 2 ft long. Run the ribbon through the front sides of each hole and tie double knots on the backside to hold the ribbon hanger in place. Cut off any excess ribbon.
Punch a hole near the bottom of the calendar (or wherever you want to place the ribbon for the day marker). Cut another piece of ribbon to hold the day marker. I used a piece about 30" long. Run the ribbon through the hole and knot. Then attach the ribbon to the day marker, using glue (or however would be best for the day marker you are using- punch hole and tie the ribbon or use tape, whatever works). Lay the calendar down to dry. Decorate with whatever supplies you have on hand :)
Here's my finished product (the kids decorated it )
This is so super easy, I know anyone could do it!! The point is not how crafty or beautiful you can make it, or whether it matches your decor. The point is to have fun! Let your kiddos help!! And spend some quality time together!!
 ********************52 Weeks*****************
52 Weeks is a year long challenge for YOU to be in a picture once a week for 52 weeks. We are always the ones behind the camera, this is YOUR chance to get out in front and be in the pictures with our family. We are glad you are joining this challenge. More importantly your family will really enjoy having you in the picture. Thanks for playing along! Oh, you can just jump in now with 1 of 52, you're not getting off that easy! Now go take a picture!
So I've been really slack about posting anything this week, that's what I get for making a public declaration that I would try to blog everyday this month. Oh well, my apologies to The (un)Experienced Mom . I really did try.
Anyway, on to today's picture of me with the kiddos.
I tried to get a pick of me doing something with the kids besides just a posed picture. I really did. But it just didn't work out. This is the result. Miss Priss was just out of the tub and about to fall asleep on me after one of our days of not being home all day. I was ready to fall asleep myself, so it's not the best (... and it seems I make excuses every week... ).
... and this is her just a few minutes later, on my lap asleep... gotta love these moments!!
Miss Priss has been sick since Monday with some kind of fever causing, stomach cramping bug. I'm not sure what it is, but I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with "swine" anything. So, even though Lady M & Miss Priss are both dressed in day clothes, I am not, because I am tired and it's COLD. So that's my pic for the day... I promise to try not to wait until THURSDAY next week to take a pic, but will post a better pic of me in actual clothes next week.
I just found this meme last week, and I'm going to start doing this.
Begrudgingly.
I am SO terribly not a photogenic person, and I have ALL KINDS of issues wth the way I look. I can always find beauty in other people, but for whatever reason, there's just not any on the outside of me. BUT that's not gonna stop me. I gotta be included in my picture memories for the girls, so this week, I'm posting a picture. I tried to take some earlier this week, but I glowed with my pastey pale pastey skin color in all of them. I would love to have someone who could snap pics for me, but my dear husband usually works between 80 and 90 hours a week, so he can't possibly have time to get behind a camera for a silly blogpost.  And I wanted to just chicken out, but I am proud to announce, that I just took my ketchup faced naked bottomed Miss Priss, and interrupted Lady M in her school work, and went to the porch to take a picture...
So here's to the first of hopefully many messy pics of me with my girls (and hopefully some with the hubby too)
