"Morning" (ha!!) Sickness

It has begun. The incessant churning and rumbling in my stomach, that instant gag reflex that seems to rear it's ugly head FAR too often for me. Whoever dubbed the term "morning sickness" either had it easy, or was a man, because it's never confined to the morning.

I have been lying on my couch for the past 3 days, only moving when ABSOLUTELY necessary.  My couch has a perma-Mama Bee dent in it, I've probably consumed a total of 800 calories, maybe less, everyday, and who knows how much of that has actually stayed in my system long enough to nourish me?? It happens with every pregnancy,  so I can't look at this as a "good sign" that everything is going to be fine with this baby. I've been just as sick with every single pregnancy.

If anyone has any good suggestions, please feel free to post them as comments, or shoot me an email. I'm certainly open to anything, although, in the past I've tried:

  • phenergan tablets
  • dramamine
  • sea-bands on my wrist
  • ginger ale
  • ginger root tea
  • salt and vinegar potato chips
  • emetrol
  • phenergan suppositories
There's probably more things that belong on that list, but frankly, a pill won't stay in my system long enough to be effective.

Why am I telling you about my barfing habits? Well, first, as always, I'd love prayer. Second,  I'm giving you a very valid reason as to why I'm may not be on here as often as usual for the next 10 weeks or so. It may be less, it may be more, you never know with "morning sickness."

  2. Aww I am sorry. I know how you feel, although now that I am in my second trimester, I am feeling fine now. I got suggestions like keep saltine crackers by your bed, and eat few before you even get up. You can also try sprite or ginger ale for the tummy. I pretty much lived on crackers and popsicles through my first trimester, hope it gets better for you!

  3. Ugh...I can totally sympathize with you! Morning sickness is so tough. I don't have any suggestions as NOTHING ever worked for me. I got to the point with 2 of the three that I had to be hospitalized and then sent home with IV's.

Hope it doesn't last to long Rhonda...keep your spirits up.

  4. My "morning sickness" was all over the board too. It was worse at night though. I had to take my prenatal vitamins immediately before I got in bed. They made me terribly sick. When I would get sick, I would drink ginger ale and eat saltine crackers. Sometimes NOTHING helped.

  5. I had pretty bad morning sickness in my pregnancy, and a woman who had been a missionary in the Philippines told me that over there all the women swear by keeping a lime next to them at all times. Whenever they start to feel sick, they dig their nail into the lime a little bit and breath in the smell.. it apparently calms the churning tummy! It worked for me to some extent.. you could give it a try! I'm sorry though, that's never fun... and yeah... MORNING sickness? yeah right. More like entire first trimester sickness. 24/7. Praying for you!!!
